The Kemp's ridley turtle is the most precariously endangered of all marine turtles. In 1947, the Kemp's ridley population was estimated to be 42,000 individuals but has since plummetted to less than 1000 nesting females.

A study conducted by the University of California, Santa Cruz, has been monitoring the health of critically endangered California condors (Gymnogyps californianus). The data collected shows that the rare birds are dying from lead poisoning.
